What is a Geode?

This is an Ethiopian Opal Geode .. so beautiful!

This is a Citrine Geode …. tremendous prosperity!

Geodes are like a Caramilk candy bar of the geology world because underneath the hard exterior lies a surprise center, sparkling with gorgeous crystals inside!

They come in colors as each specimen offers up a different interior, makes me wonder, “What causes all the colors?”  Ahh, of course, the trace elements from the mineral-rich water flowing, the bubbles which form inside.

Most geodes have interiors made of either quartz or calcite. Quartz crystals are silicates which are the most common mineral in the crust of the earth. Over 90% of the minerals present in the earth’s crust are silicates.

Treasure the geode for its beauty, but also for its history and how complex the process was, the composition of minerals that made it. You’re holding millions of years of work in your hand…enjoy touching the miracle of our earth’s creation.

With a busy couple of weeks, I gotta get my customer’s attention to stock up on them! have you heard of the Thunder Eggs? Next…..
